Why did the carbon tetrachloride layer change color?

What book would this information thuroughly explain about? what chem theory relates to this problem? what general group of experiaments does this belong to? This color change happened when I added a certain amount of bleach turning it yellow. I then added more bleach and it turned colorless. Then I added some H2SO4 to the colorless concoction and it turned into a different color. All I want to know is why?!?
