How do you open a jammed mailbox?

Our cul-de-sac has one of those big plastic boxes where everyone's mail is put and then you have to have a key to open your slot thinger. Someone thought they were funny and fooled around with ours and now our key won't even go into the lock. What should we do? Do we contact the authories or US mail service? Do we just call a locksmith?
