Hooking my scanner up to my laptop?

Ive got a dell inspiron laptop and im trying to connect my scanner up to it to scan something. The scanner is a HP psc 1300. Will I need the cd to it(I have no idea where that thing went after i connected it the regular computer.)Which of the cords will I need I just plugged it in the wall and used the usb cable to my laptop.Im not good at hooking stuff up to the laptop
